What is the Impact Gaming Community?
The Impact Gaming Community (IGC) is a group of skilled gamers who have gathered together under a single banner to rock the MMORPG world. Don't let that statement fool you though, we play much more than just MMORPGs. Our community is divided into official chapters which represent us in MMORPGs and Gamer Groups which represent us in all other types of games (MOBAs, Action-Adventure, FPS, eSports, etc.).
How was Impact Gaming formed?
Impact Gaming was years in the making and in 2010 blossomed into a true gaming community. Grey, and a number of people with whom he played MMORPGs gathered to form Neutral Impact in July 2010. Within just a few months, and with rising interest in other online games, Grey decided to expand one 30-man group into a gaming community. That was the end of October 2010 and by the new year we had over 50 members and a brand new chapter for Rift: Planes of Telara. Thus the Impact Gaming Community was born.
What kind of games do you guys play?
We play MMORPGs and a variety of other online co-op and competitive games. There are players at IGC who play games like Rocket League, DOTA 2, Diablo III, Helldivers, and too many to list. Sometimes members who frequently play these games form a Gamer Group, which are open to everyone.
Which MMORPGs have your community members played?
If you can name it, at least a handful of players here have played it. Most notably our members have played EverQuest, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XI, Aion, Rift, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and many more.
How many guilds are hosted by the gaming community?
Impact Gaming currently hosts several guilds. Official chapters receive their own heading in the main menu, while gamer groups receive a listing in the Groups menu. We are always expanding so this list gets updated frequently. Check back with us periodically to see if we're on the lookout for a game you are looking forward to! There is a very good chance we will have a start-up chapter for it. In addition, if you are interested in utilizing our resources to build a group within our community, send Grey a message and he will get back to you about the details.
Do you plan to add more games in the future?
Absolutely! Impact Gaming Community is always on the lookout for new and interesting games. As they are announced we check them out and see if there is interest in the community. From there we build a small group, find a leader, and let the gaming magic happen. You can check out our forums to see what we're looking at now.
How do I become a member?
To become a member of the community you need to be accepted into one of our guilds OR you can join a Gamer Group. Check out each guild's "about" page or recruitment link to find out how to join! Each guild has unique recruitment angles and policies, but in general they all accept similar players. You will need to be 21+, mature, but also able to take a joke! Without humor we have nothing! Guilds also have several ranks, but among them are the general members and friends & family applicants.
What's the difference between Member and Friends & Family?
Member are those players considering being core members of a guild. They are expected to be ale to meet the event schedule for the group, vote on applications, and be active in the guild. Friends & Family applicants are those players who are, you guessed it, a friend or family member of a current guild member. F&F players not held to the same expectations as Member and as such cannot view or vote on applicants. They are generally casual members and can come and go as they wish.
Is TeamSpeak required?
TeamSpeak is required for events within any of our guilds. The amount of TeamSpeak time required outside of events varies by Guild Leader or Game Master, but generally you don't need to be on TeamSpeak unless there is something big going down. English is our community's primary language.
What kind of perks do members get?
Community members get access to a plethora of goodies. You will have access to the forums, where the vast majority of our discussion happens. There you will be able to vote on guildmates for your particular chapter, but will always be able to see who is coming into the community among any guild at IGC. Members also get access to our TeamSpeak, which is live 24/7 and always has members chatting on it. In addition we utilize Google Hangouts for communication outside of the game and to stay in touch with happenings across the community. Members will be granted access to a guild/group-specific hangout as well as a global IGC Hangout upon acceptance.
Note: We here at IGC believe everything should be free to members so there will never be anything silly like a membership fee. Your fee is whatever you pay to play the game on your own (like subscription fee!). We're not a business! Just a group of people looking to have a good fun on the internetz!
